超音波エラストグラフィーは非侵襲的な方法で組織の硬さの違いを表示する技術であり，直腸面から離れた部分の「触診」を可能にする．前立腺癌の診断におけるエラストグラフィーの有用性については，腫瘍組織が周囲の正常組織よりも硬いことを根拠としており，その他の超音波画像診断と比べても高い前立腺癌検出の感度を期待されてきた．本稿の目的は，エラストグラフィーの前立腺癌診断における有用性についてレビューを行うことである．

Ultrasound elastography is a technique that allows visualization of tissue stiffness in a noninvasive manner, and enables “deep palpation” of the prostate. The principle of prostate cancer detection with sonoelastography relies on the fact that tumor tissue has a greater stiffness than surrounding normal prostate. Based on this premise, this method is expected to supplement the lack of sensitivity of some of the other ultrasound techniques in diagnosing prostate cancer. The aim of this paper is to review and illustrate the current status of sonoelastography in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
