A 17-year-old patient with Schönlein-Henoch purpura complicated with intracholecystic hemorrhaging was admitted to this institution with abdominal pain. Our first diagnosis was Schönlein-Henoch purpura complicated with pyelonephritis and gastritis, because the typical signs and symptoms were present. About one month later, the patient complained of severe abdominal pain. Ultrasonographic examination showed that the gallbladder was filled with hyperechoic sludge-like substance. A second diagnosis of bleeding gallbladder was based on MRI findings. Medication with steroids relieved the patient's discomfort , and ultrasonography showed the disappearance of the hemorrhagic clots.
