It is generally accepted that aging influences volume of renal blood flow, though there are no reports on renal blood flow velocity in vivo. In this study, relationship between aging and velocity of renal blood flow were examined to determine the clinical significance of measurement of renal blood flow velocity using Doppler color flow mapping (with the Toshiba model SSA-270A). Ninety-five healthy subjects who had no renal, hepatic, or circulatory diseases were divided into eight groups according to decade of age. The segmental and interlobar arteries of all subjects are indicated in red. Renal blood flow velocity had a strong inverse correlation with age. We thus confirmed that age should be taken into account in the measurement of renal blood flow velocity in various diseases.
