Color Doppler sonography, Aneurysm, Embolization
We performed an abdominal CT scan on a 68-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital unconscious. The scan showed a vascular mass approximately 2 cm in diameter. Ultrasonography revealed that the mass was anechoic. Color Doppler sonography showed arterial flow and a mosaic pattern in the same lesion. Angiography showed a middle colic artery aneurysm (saccular type). We applied transcatheter arterial embolization to the aneurysm with a few gelatin sponge. After complete embolization, color Doppler sonography showed no flow in the anechoic area. We performed an abdominal CT scan on a 73-year-old man with anorexia. The scan showed a mass approximately 4 cm in diameter in the pelvic cavity. An ultrasonography showed an anechoic area within the mass, and color Doppler sonography showed forward arterial flow in the anechoic area. Angiography revealed a left internal iliac artery aneurysm (fusiform type). We applied transcatheter arterial embolization to the aneurysm with steel coils. After incomplete embolization, color Doppler sonography showed decreased flow in the aneurysm. In conclusion, color Doppler sonography was effective in the diagnosis of the aneurysms, and to evaluate the embolizations.
