To assess the impairment of left atrial (LA) booster pump function in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), 10 patients with DCM were echocardiographically examined before and during angiotensin II (AT II) infusion. We obtained end-diastolic and end-systolic left ventricular dimensions (Dd, Ds), percent fractional shortening (% FS) and the LA dimension before atrial contraction (LADa) using M mode echocardiography, peak velocities during the rapid filling phase (R) and during atrial systole (A), A/R, and the left atrial systolic time intervals indexes, including the corrected left atrial pre-ejection period (APEPc) and the left atrial ejection time (AET) for transmitral flow using pulsed Doppler echocardiography.
