The nature and the characteristics of the ultrasonic Doppler signal induced by blood flow are summarized. The information which could be obtained from the Doppler signal is clarified, and the spectral broadening effect of longitudinal and lateral resolution ability is examined. The higher-order spectral moments of Doppler signal are suggested as possible additional forms of information representation.
