The ultrasonotomogram of gallbladder in the presence of ascites is an adequate subject for evaluation of gallbladder wall.
　We evaluated ultrasonically the gallbladder wall of 1 3 ascitic patients without cholelithiasis and cholecystitics, and following conclusions were made:
(i)　Gallbladder wall thickened in the presence of ascites.
(ii)　The wall thickening was a reversible change, and thickened wall returned to its normal thickness after ascitic fluid has disappeared.
(iii) In the presence of ascites, gallbladder wall has thickened conspicuously,where as the bowel wall has not.
