A mechanical sector scanner, a real time ultrasound system, was applied for the diagnosis of mediastinal, splenic and hepato-biliary diseases. When it was used to 8 patients for the diagnosis of mediastinal tumors, it was useful in 6 patients, and it was useless in the other 2 patients. And when it was used to 6 patients of congenital choledochal cyst and 20 patients of splenomegaly, all of them were useful. Therefore, this ultrasonic examination using mechanical sector scanner from the intercostal space was useful for the diagnosis of mediastinal diseases, splenic and hepato-biliary diseases.
