We evaluated size, hemodynamic pattern, and histologic findings of 26 nodules associated with liver cirrhosis from which color Doppler imaging obtained afferent continuous wave form signals. Nodule size ranged from 0.8 to 3.0 cm (2.1±0. 6 cm (SD)). Arterial vascularity determined by US angiography was hypovascular, 16 noeules; vascular spot in hypovascular, 7 nodules; and isovascular, 3 nodules. No hypervascular nodules were observed. CT conducted during arterial portgraphy showed portal supply in 25 (96%) of the 26 nodules. Slightly increased portal perfusion was observed in 6 nodules; slightly decreased portalperfusion, in 5 nodules. Portal per fusion in the remaining 14 nodules was identical to that of the surrounding liver parenchyma. partial portal per fusion defects were observed in the 2 cases with increased portal per fusion and in 1 case with identical portal per fusion. Histologic diagnosis showed 12 cases to be hyperplastic nodules and 14 cases to be well-differentiated HCC. No moderately or poorly differentiated HCC was obsened. we conclude that nodules that produced afferent intratumoral continuous wave form signals are either hyperplastic nodules or well-differentiated HCCs, not typical, classical HCC
