Color Doppler US, Hepatocellular carcinoma, Transarterial embolization
This study was performed to evaluate the color Doppler sonography of a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and to compare this sonography with the CT and/or angiography before and after transcatheter arterial embolization therapy (TAE). Before TAE, 20 of 24 lesions were visualized in a peritumoral and/or intratumoral color flow image through color Doppler sonography, and correlated well with the dynamic CT and/or angiographic findings of HCC. Two weeks after TAE, the color flow image was identified in 11 lesions, and correlated well with the dynamic CT findings of the residual HCC. We conclude that color Doppler sonography provides an excellent evaluation of the imaging vascular access to HCC, allowing the tumor vascularity to be predicted, and providing an accurate evaluation of the residual tumor after TAE.
