Ultrasonographic and computed tomographic features of five cases of intrathoracic neurogenic tumors in Recklinghausen's disease were compared with their pathological findings. All cases were operated on and pathological diagnosis were made. We found two cases of plexiform neurofibroma, one case of ganglioneuroma and two cases of malignant Schwannoma. Grape-like clusters of small solid nodules were found in the two cases of plexiform neurofibroma using ultrasonography. The margin of the nodules was well defined. The nodular structure of the tumor was not disclosed by CT. Ultrasonographic findings were well correlated with macroscopic pathological findings. In the two cases of malignant Schwannoma, internal density of the tumor was heterogeneous by ultrasonography and CT, and string structures were found in one case. Pathological findings supported these imaging diagnoses. Ultrasonography enables us to delineate the macroscopic structure of intrathoracic neurogenic tumors in Recklinghausen's disease.
