It is well known that US has limitations for delineating the pancreas and that the pancreatic tail is rarely visualized in its entirely. In this paper, we compare the electronic linear array scan and the pancreatogram obtained by ERP as to ability to delineate the pancreas. Assuming the length of the pancreatogram to be 100%, the length of the pancreas visualized by US ranged from 20.3% to 85.6% with a mean of 45% in fifty cases. The length of the pancreas from the tail edge unvisualized by US was about 45%. We should keep this fact in mind when conducting linear array examination.
