Prenatal ultrasonography, Holoprosencephaly, Alobar type
Holoprosencephaly is a congenital malformation that affects both brain and facial structures. We report here a case of alobar holoprosencephaly with cebocephaly diagnosed on the basis of prenatal ultrasound examination. The characteristic findings of this disorder included a large accumulation of central cranial fluid (a monoventricular cavity lacking ventricular horns), and a fused thalamus at the floor of this cavity. The cortex was displaced rostrally, and the falx cerebri, the septum pellucidum and the corpus callosum were absent on the ultrasound examination. The prenatal diagnosis of this disorder may be useful for the prenatal and neonatal management.
