　The method of scanning and the rate of US visualization are disccussed for the subsegmental branches of the right portal vein. Seventy-five cases were examined, excluded such cases as obstruction in the main PV 1st or 2nd branch. Each subsegmental branch was developed according to the nomenclature by Takayasu. The visualized rate of VIIIa, VIIIb, VIIIc and VIIId was 86.7%, 85.3%, 97.3% and 22.7%. That of Va and Vb was 97.3% and 94.7%. Therate of VIIa and VIIb was 72.0% and 86.7%. VIa, VIb and VI* were detected at the rate of 98.7%, 84.0% and 18.7%. Identification of portal subsegmental branches by US is useful for the judgment of precise localization of small hepatic tumor.
