Most reputable medical journals have taken a strong stand
against the practice of reporting substantially the same
work in two or more different publications. The Editorial
Board ofJournal of Medical Ultrasonics wishes to affirm
and clarify its position on the subject ofrepetitive publication.
When reviewers pointed out duplicate submission, the duplicate
paper has been rejected. Apublication will be considered
repetitive when materials, method, results, and discussion
areessentially the same. Presence or absence of new insights
or information, and reference to theearlier publication
in the latter publication, will also be taken into consideration.
Language of publication will not be accepted as justification
for multiple publication.
Publication of a paper in the Supplements of the Journal
of Medical Ultrasonics will not, however, disqualify it
for publication in the Journal of Medical Ultrasonics.
When repetitive publication comes to light after publication
in the Journal, a Notice of Repetitive Publication will
be published and prominently placed in the Journal as
soon as possible after discovery.
